Update Sept 2023

Hi,

How are you?

For us, It still feels like a season of change, but we’re encouraged by the progress and fruit we’ve seen in the last 3 months of serving back in Cambodia.

Pheap's been busy

Pheap has been busy serving in a variety of ways, including:

  • Preaching at our weekly community gathering on June 28, on the topic of “Championing the Youth: Don’t Despise Your Youth.” There were about 250-300 people in attendance, and 90% of them were under the age of 25.
  • Teaching Learning Styles for the Titus project (a Bible teacher training program) to prepare Bible teachers to go out and teach the Bible and encourage the church in five different provinces in Cambodia.
  • Teaching in the Discipleship Bible School in Poipet Base (covering Joshua, Judges, Ruth, and Psalms).
  • Attending a master’s program training in Kona Base from August 7-14. This was an exciting opportunity to accelerate our progress in preparation for the next master’s degree in January 2024.
  • Helping to facilitate the National Staff Conference from August 22-25.
  • Teaching in the School of Ministry Development in Pailin Base from August 28-September 1. This was an encouraging experience, as I was able to help new and old staff grow in taking ownership and responsibility for their calling.

These are just a few of the things that Pheap has done in addition to her regular work as an administrative leader, which includes helping people with visas and registering Khmer staff.

You don't rise to your goals, you fall to your habits.

Pat Learning Khmer

Pat finished the “Khmer Boot Camp” language course.

Finishing the “Khmer Boot Camp” language course helped with language learning a lot but not how I expected it to. I grew in my ability to speak Khmer but the the most valuable thing I gained from this time was God giving me a new joy in learning Khmer and new habits prioritizing Language learning.

I’m not at my goal of being able to speak heart to heart but I was able to struggle through a long conversation with a Khmer dad, who brought his child to play on campus. He had questions about churches and denominations but I was able to awkwardly steer the conversation toward considering his own personal relationship with God.

Amidst the language learning I’ve been helping with tech administration and working on systems to improve collaboration. So we can better stir each other up.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. -Heb 10:24

Please Pray

  • For Pats health and
  • For rapid growth in understanding & speaking Khmer.
  • For wisdom and favor in building systems to facilitate collaboration that can outlast me.

Trust and Obey

We are so thankful to the Lord for the privilege of serving the community, educating the youth, and developing leadership in Cambodia.

Pheap was able to preach at our weekly gathering on the topic of “Championing the Youth: Don’t Despise Your Youth.” It was a strange experience, as I had planned to preach a certain message, but while worshiping I felt I was supposed to change direction. I don’t often get that feeling, so I followed it, and I was so blessed to know that one person gave their life to Jesus as a result. It was so encouraging to know that our simple obedience bore fruit.

Partner With Us

We are full-time volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the world. Our work here helps to serve communities, educate the youth, and develop leaders.

Currently, we have enough support to cover about 30% of our monthly budget, which makes it difficult for us to travel, attend meetings, or deal with any unexpected expenses like health and emergencies.

  • We would like help covering costs for attending a conference called ‘Global Leadership Gathering’ in Thailand, where we will be representing our organization and sharing our work with other leaders. It will be about $500 and we’ll travel on the 13th.
  • We also want to purchase a permanent home here in Cambodia. This would cost us between $60,000 and $80,000. We are praying for this as we hope to serve long-term in Cambodia

We know that you are busy and have many other commitments, but we hope that you will consider partnering with us. Your support will allow us to continue our work and make a difference in the lives of others.

Thank you for your consideration.

Blessings,
Pat & Pheap.
